In the 1940s, Trinidadian sugarcane farmer Charles Alfred Neale came home one day having made the decision to go into business for himself, pursuing his passion for making ice cream using the local, tropical fruit of the island. For decades, Neale could be seen riding his bike into neighbourhoods across Southern Trinidad calling out, “Come get your Sweet N’ Nice…” bringing children and families together to enjoy his ice cream. His business was a success, and he was able to send his 12 kids through school.
At a family reunion in 2012, two of Neale’s grandchildren, Stafford Attzs and Andrew McBarnett together with their Aunt Rosemarie found themselves enjoying ice cream at a family reunion and were inspired to launch Neale’s Sweet N’ Nice ice cream in Canada, honouring Charles Neale and sharing the taste of the islands with Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
The family team then worked tirelessly for a number of months with food scientists and the University of Guelph to transform the home-made recipes for mass production while maintaining the essence of Charles Neale’s original secret recipes.
Finally, the brand was relaunched in Toronto in 2015 initially with Mango and Coconut flavours and later expanding to more than 6 flavours, growing the brand across Canada in major retailers.
In 2023, the Sweet N’ Nice Ice Cream brand was launched in the US market, brining the Fun and Flavours of the Caribbean across America.
